Event "What the Small Business Needs to Know About SBA Loans and Recent Changes in Hiring Laws"

This event will be held in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services and Northwest Bank and is sponsored by Northern Illinois SCORE.

Part I. The SBA Loan Process

Northwest Bank will discuss what is required to secure a loan with emphasis on how the Small Business Administration (SBA) can be a valuable partner in making the loan process a success. They will clarify what an SBA guarantee can and cannot do, how the process works and when it is appropriate. 7a and 504 loan guarantees will be reviewed.

There currently is funding available from the SBA, but those funds could be exhausted in the months ahead. If you are starting a new business, or planning to expand an existing one, now would be the time to learn how you could qualify and the steps necessary to get the process underway.

Understanding the SBA loan process can be a daunting task! Much of the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 is posted on this site. Attending this event will allow you to learn directly from bank representatives engaged in SBA lending.

Part II. What the SB Needs to Know RE Hiring Laws

Facilitated by Christa Ballew of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, this workshop will address the following points regarding the hiring of new employees:

The New Hire Reporting Law
Understanding Employer Responsibilities
Benefits of the New Law
Requirements of the New Law
How, Where, and Who to Report

Workshop attendees will be shown how to report online and the benefits of reporting online. An Employers Guide for implementing new laws will be made available at the workshop in hard copy.

A SCORE representative will provide and overview of the Illinois Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit.
