Workshops are designed to educate on topics that are major areas of concern for a new business, or for an existing business trying to expand.
SCORE teaches how to start your business, market your products or services, set up accounting practices, establish legal counseling, obtain bank financing and more.
Workshops are presented by SCORE volunteers in cooperation with Rock Valley College and the Small Business Development Center.




Workshop "Creating & Improving Your Business Web Site"

There is no debate today. Everyone is "under the gun" to get more results, get more leads, and to do more with less. But how does one do that in a floundering economy? Well, one way is to begin to maximize the potential your business web site has to offer in bringing your business more prospects and ultimately, more customers.
Did you know most web sites don't work? Yes, that is correct! Sadly, up to 70% don't help their business owners return a dollar to their business. Consider these reasons why most sites are so ineffective:
- Business owner hasn't targeted the right group of people
- Poor content; not what your visitor is looking for or "me oriented"
- Content that is overwhelmingly "salesy"
- Not set up for Google and Yahoo properly
- Not set up properly to be found in the local business area
- Poor navigation (visitors can't find what they are looking for)
- Business owners don't know how to measure web site effectiveness
Simply put, many small business web sites are just boring "brochureware". Guess what? The days of brochureware are over! Yellow pages usage continues to decline. Social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are exploding. Today's web site has to be a focal point for attracting prospects to your business. Web sites must provide content of value to their visitors and must engage prospects all the way through the sales process.
